Martin Hehir was one of 11 men's track and field and cross country student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, CoSIDA announced Thursday afternoon. This is the second time Hehir has earned the distinction and is now eligible to become a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Hehir is one of Syracuse's top performers this year, beginning with a dominant cross country season where he finished in third place at both the ACC Championship and NCAA Northeast Regional to help the team win both titles. During the indoor track season he set two school records in the mile and 3,000-meter run and became Syracuse's first-ever ACC Individual Champion in the outdoor season, winning the 10,000-meter race.
His ACC Individual Championship time qualified him for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet, held in Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend, where he will compete for one of 12 spots in the NCAA Championships. He enters the East Prelims with the eighth-best time in the region.
