Rodgers And McCabe Earn Orange Scholar-Athlete Honors

Sam Rodgers of SU football and Lindsay McCabe of the ‘Cuse volleyball squad are this week’s Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week
With fall sports kicking off this week and classes now underway, Syracuse University has selected Sam Rodgers and Lindsay McCabe as the first male and female Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the 2014-15 calendar year.
Rogers was recently named one of the football team's four captains. He will serve as team captain alongside teammates Cameron Lynch, Sean Hickey and Prince-Tyson Gulley. The State College, Pa., native is a Entrepreneurship major with a minor in Nutrition and has recently been nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his excellence in community service.
As a Biology major and a Mathematics minor, McCabe is returning for her final go with the Orange as well and also serves as one of the volleyball team captains in 2014. This is McCabe's third season as captain and she returns as one of the most feared middle blockers in the ACC. At 6'1" McCabe enters the season with 384 career blocks and is just 12 away from the second most in program history.
SU volleyball begins its season on Saturday, August 30 and will host the Big Orange Tournament in the Women's Building. Coach Yelin's squad will begin the 2014 campaign at 11 AM against Delaware State. Matches for SU volleyball are free of admission for fans.
Rogers was given the nod as the football team's starting long snapper in the season opener against Villanova this Friday, August 29 at 7:30 PM in the Carrier Dome. Season tickets for 2014, which start at $99, and the three-game package that includes Villanova, Florida State and a third home game in the Dome of the fan's choice ($125 per package) are available now online (www.Cuse.com), by phone (888-DOMETIX), at Destiny USA kiosks and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20+), with prices as low as $10 each, are available for all home games by calling the Ticket Sales office (443-3212).
