SYRACUSE - The No. 5 Syracuse field hockey team opens the 2014 season this weekend at the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Head coach Ange Bradley's Orange opens up with Ohio State on Friday at 3 p.m. and will face Miami (OH) on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Orange then continues its run through the state of Ohio, meeting Ohio University on Monday at 1 p.m. and Kent State on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

In Openers
- Syracuse is 27-15 all-time in season openers, including a perfect 7-0 under Ange Bradley. The Orange is 14-4 in season openers since 1996.
- Last season, SU opened with a 5-1 win vs. Quinnipiac. In 2012, the Orange opened with a 8-1 win at Monmouth. In 2011, the Orange opened at home vs. Monmouth, winning 4-0.

- The Orange is ranked No. 5 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll for the second-straight season.
- SU finished 2013 ranked No. 2 following a 16-4 record in its first year in the ACC.
Top Streak Reaches 65 Weeks
- Syracuse has now been ranked in the top-10 of the NFHCA poll for 65-straight weeks, dating back to Aug. 28, 2008.
Series Histories
- Syracuse is 6-3 all-time against Ohio State. The last meeting was a 1-0 Orange win on Sept. 15, 2013.
- SU is 2-1 all-time against Miami University. The last meeting was a 2-0 Syracuse win in 2001.
- Syracuse is 1-0 against Ohio, the only game against the Bobcats was a 6-0 Orange win on Aug. 26, 2012.
- SU is 5-2 all-time against Kent State. The last meeting was on Sept. 8, 2013 and resulted in a 6-2 win for the Orange.

- Syracuse welcomes 10 freshman newcomers to the ranks in 2014.
- The highly talented freshman class is composed of: midfielder/back Jill Giesen [Essen, Germany], forward Caroline Cady [Clifton Park, N.Y.], midfielder Erin Gillingham [Boyertown, P.A.], midfielder Lieke Visser [Bunnik, Netherlands], midfielder/forward Laura Hurff [Newark. Del.], back/midfielder Allie Mannheimer [Skillman, N.J.], forward Lies Lagerweij [Delft, Netherlands], forward Jessica Berg [Colorado Springs, Colo.], midfielder Jessica Ross [Dundee, Scotland] amd back Annalena Ulbrich [Hannover, Germany].
Returning Players
- Senior forward Lauren Brooks led the team with 13 goals last season.
- Junior forward and current co-captain Emma Russell was second on the team with 12 goals last season.
- Alyssa Manley tied for fourth on the team with 18 points last season.
- Kati Nearhouse, a redshirt senior and current co-captain,
- Karlee Farr, a rising sophomore, tallied 18 points as a freshman in 2013.
