
Orange Looks for Third-Straight Win Against Cavaliers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse volleyball team returns home on Sunday, taking on Virginia at 1 p.m. in the Women's Building.
After defeating Virginia Tech last Sunday and sweeping Boston College on Wednesday, the Orange looks to pick up its third-straight conference win against the Cavaliers. Both squads hold a 5-2 record in the ACC, with Syracuse currently ranked fourth in ACC standings and Virginia right behind in fifth place.
PREVIEWING VIRGINIA (13-5, 5-2 ACC)
This will be the eighth overall meeting between the Orange and the Cavaliers, with Syracuse posting a 4-3 advantage in the series. The Orange looks to win its third straight match against the Cavaliers since joining the ACC in 2013.
The Cavaliers captured its 600th win in program history on Friday, defeating Boston College in three straight sets. Virginia ranks second in the ACC in service aces per set (1.65), with senior Kayla Sears leading the ACC in service aces, averaging 0.49 per set.
Senior Natalie Bausback leads the Cavaliers in multiple categories, leading the squad in kills (206), digs (161), and total blocks (94).
QUICK DIGS
- Senior Silvi Uattara looks to complete her 200th kill of the 2015 season against the Cavaliers. The outside hitter, who was also named to the 2015 Preseason All-ACC Team, currently ranks 10th in single-season kills at SU with 425. She leads the 2015 Orange in kills with 199 so far on the season.
- The Orange's size and experience in the front row creates an opportunity for Syracuse to be one of the best blocking teams in the country. Syracuse currently ranks third in the nation and first in the ACC in total blocks, totaling 211 on the 2015 season.
- With seven players six feet or taller and the team's setter at 5-11, the Orange also ranks second in the ACC and eighth in the nation in blocks per set (3.01).
- The duo of sophomore Leah Levert and freshman Santita Ebangwese lead the Orange at the net, with both of them being ranked nationally in the blocks per set and total blocks categories.
- Levert ranks 29th in the nation and third in the ACC in blocks per set (1.34). Levert has totaled 90 blocks on the season so far, putting her at 20th in the nation and second in the ACC in total blocks. Ebangwese ranks 31st in the nation and third in the conference with 87 blocks.
- Senior setter Gosia Wlaszczuk surpassed the 1,000 career assist mark in the team's 3-1 win over UConn at the UConn Invitational opening weekend. The senior has tallied 578 assists so far on the 2015 season, well on track to double her career assists in this season alone.
