
Orange Duo Named to Academic All-District Team

Oyvind Alseth and Julian Buescher will be on the national ballot for the Academic All-America squad.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse junior Oyvind Alseth and sophomore Julian Buescher have been selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I men's soccer team. The pair will now be placed on the Academic All-America national ballot.
Alseth has started all 16 matches this season and has tied his career high with 11 points. He is tied for second on the team in assists with five to go along with three goals. Three of his assists came in the Orange's victory against Pittsburgh, making him the ninth player in program history to have at least three assists in a match and the first since 2001. Alseth was a member of the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team and is a four-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Buescher leads Syracuse in scoring with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. All three totals are career highs. Buescher ranks second in the ACC and 18th in the nation in total assists and is third in the league and 23rd in the country in total points. He was the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after posting the first multiple-goal game of his career in the Orange's win at Duke. Buescher also scored a pair of goals against Hartford. He was a member of the 2014 All-ACC Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team. In addition, he is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Alseth and Buescher will now be on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team. CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs. The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
