SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse volleyball team looks to continue its winning streak this weekend against ACC foes Virginia Tech on Friday at 8 p.m. and Pittsburgh on Sunday at 1 p.m.
This will be the second face-off between both teams of the 2015 season, with the Orange looking to pick up another victory against the Hokies and bounce back from a four-set loss to the Panthers earlier in the season.
After a 2-0 weekend sweep at Duke and Wake Forest, Syracuse currently ranks fifth in the ACC standings, posting an 11-5 conference record and a 20-7 overall record.
PREVIEWING VIRGINIA TECH (15-13, 6-10 ACC)
The Orange and the Hokies meet for the eighth time overall since 1993, including the second time this season. Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 5-2, yet the Orange broke the Hokies' four-game winning streak within the series this past October, coming out on top in a five-set victory at the Women's Building.
Junior outside hitter Lindsey Owens leads the Hokies with 346 kills so far on the season, placing her at ninth in the ACC in kills. Senior libero Kenedy McGrath ranks ninth in the conference in digs, averaging 3.92 digs per set and leading the Virginia Tech squad with 408 digs on the season.
Virginia Tech currently sits at 10th in the ACC standings, posting a 6-10 conference record 15-13 overall record.
PREVIEWING PITTSBURGH (21-7, 11-5 ACC)
The Orange and the Panthers meet for the second time this season in a series that dates back to 1982. The two teams have met every year since the 1985 season, and are meeting for the sixth time as ACC rivals. Pittsburgh leads the all-time series with a record of 35-10, including a four-set Panther victory this October at the Women's Building.
Senior middle hitter Amanda Orchard ranks second in the ACC in hitting percentage, posting a .396 hitting percentage while collecting 234 kills so far on the season. Grad student Kadi Kullerkann leads the Panthers with 383 kills on the season.
Pitt leads the ACC in assists behind setters Jenna Jacobson and Akeo Kamalani, as the team averages 13.83 assists per set. Along with that, the Panthers rank third in the conference in kills, averaging 14.48 per set.
QUICK DIGS
- Syracuse currently ranks first in the nation in total blocks, totaling 329.5 on the 2015 season.
- With seven players six feet or taller and the team's setter at 5-11, the Orange also rank second in the ACC and fourth in the nation in blocks per set (3.14).
- Freshman Santita Ebangwese was named the ACC Freshman of the Week (11/9) after her performances against UNC and NC State. The middle blocker notched a career-high 12 blocks against the Wolfpack.
- Senior outside hitter Nicolette Serratore registered her 1,000th career kill in the team's 3-1 win against NC State (11/8).
- The duo of sophomore Leah Levert and freshman Santita Ebangwese lead the Orange at the net, with both of them being ranked in the blocks per set and total blocks categories.
- Levert ranks 15th in the nation and second in the ACC in blocks per set (1.44). Levert has totaled 147 blocks on the season so far, putting her at ninth in the nation and first in the ACC in total blocks. Ebangwese ranks seventh in the conference with 127 total blocks.
- Senior outside hitter Silvi Uattara sits atop of the attack list for the Orange, totaling 298 kills on the season so far. The ACC Player of the Week (8/31) ranks 10th in single-season kills at SU with 425, achieved during the 2013 season.
