
Field Hockey Quartet Earn Academic Honors

Four earn All-ACC Academic Team accolades
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four members of the 2014 Syracuse University field hockey team were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon. Senior forward Lauren Brooks, freshman midfielder Laura Hurff, senior back Jordan Page, and junior forward Emma Russell all were named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

In its second season in the ACC, the Orange advanced to its first-ever NCAA Tournament final. Syracuse ultimately lost, 1-0, to Connecticut. The club finished the season with an 18-6 overall record and also advanced to the ACC Tournament final for the first time in program history.

Brooks, a senior nutrition major, earned her second All-ACC Academic Team honor of her collegiate career. The Lancaster, Pa. native ranked fourth on the team in scoring in 2014, tallying 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. Her 11 goals ranked second on the squad, as well. Brooks was selected to participate in the 2014 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game. She completed her career with 40 goals, which ranks fifth in program history.

Hurff, a freshman health and exercise major, had a strong first season, tallying 14 points on five goals and four assists. The Newark, Del. native was one of two freshmen to play in every game in 2014 for the Orange and started all but one contest. Hurff was recognized as the ACC Player of the Week and ECAC Rookie of the Week for her efforts against Cornell and Louisville.

Page, a senior health and physical education major, was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time. The Denver, Pa. native registered 30 points on eight goals and 14 assists, which ranked third on the club. Her 14 assists were the second-most on the team, as well. Page earned Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region Second Team honors. She finished her career with 38 assists, which ranks fourth in school history.

Russell, a junior economics major, collected her second All-ACC Academic Tem accolade. The Enniskerry, Ireland native led the squad in scoring, notching 46 points on 21 goals and four assists. Her 21 goals rank third in Syracuse single-season history. Russell was one of two Orange named to the Longstreth/NFCHA Division I All-America First Team. Heading into her final season, Russell ranks second in program history with 42 goals scored.

In total, 35 student-athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, with Duke's senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing earning ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. To be eligible for consideration, one must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for their academic career.
