Can't Hold Off The Cards
After pitching her way out of a jam in the first, Louisville put together a two-out rally in the second to take a three run lead thanks to a solo shot and a two-run inside the park home run. The Cardinals led off with a home run in the fourth to extend its lead to 4-0 but the Orange had a rebuttal prepared in the bottom of the inning.
Wambold walked to begin the inning and was moved to second on a single by Ozanne. In the ensuing at-bat, O'Hara sent a ball back up the middle to score Wambold and give 'Cuse its first run of the ball game. Two batters later, Cater reached on a fielder's choice but an error allowed O'Hara to score and it allowed Cater to reach second and Chitkowski to reach third after she reached on a fielder's choice the previous at-bat. With two runners in scoring position, Burkhardt followed up by absolutely crushing a ball to left for her first career home run that gave the Orange a 5-4 advantage. Syracuse wasn't done as Dombrowski singled and Doane walked to give Wambold an RBI opportunity but an error by the second baseman allowed both runners to score, making it a 7-4 ball game in favor of Syracuse after four innings.
The Cardinals made a push in the sixth to reclaim the lead but was stopped short, as they were only able to grab two runs on a single to center field. The Orange wasn't so fortunate in the seventh as its one-run lead was blown by a seven-run, eight-hit outburst by the Cards that solidified their 13-7 victory.Â
