
Softball Season Coming To A Close

The Orange will host Virginia in its final series of 2015
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This weekend the Syracuse softball 2015 season comes to a close with a three-game series against Virginia. The Orange will take on the Cavaliers in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25 beginning at 1:00 p.m., and will wrap up 2015 with Senior Day on Sunday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m.

This year, 'Cuse will honor three student-athletes graduating in May. Mary Dombrowski, Lindsay Taylor and Julie Wambold will wear the orange uniform one last time and will be recognized in a special ceremony prior to Sunday's game.

Breaking Down The Cavaliers
Virginia enters the weekend with its season on the line as it is one of three teams fighting for the final ticket to the ACC Tournament. With four wins and 17 losses in the conference, it and Boston College (3-12) are currently chasing Georgia Tech (6-15) for the eight seed in the tournament.

The Cavaliers have a quartet of rising stars leading the lineup with a batting averages above .290, two of which have started every game. Sophomore, Kaitlin Fitzgerald, and freshman, Allison Davis, are the two starters hitting .364 and .319 respectively in 53 games. Iyana Hughes owns .321 batting average, .528 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base percentage in 48 games played and 39 starts as a sophomore. Davis is the power threat with nine homers on the season. Hughes and Fitzgerald have five and three home runs correspondingly. Danni Ingraham is the other power threat, hitting .291 this season with seven home runs in 49 starts and as many games played in her freshman season.

UVA rolls out a set of freshman twins in the circle and has received quality innings from its junior, Aimee Chapdelaine. Andie Formby leads the twins in wins (8) innings pitched (148.2), appearances (33) and starts (24) and her 5.56 ERA is the better of the two starters. Her sister, Alex Formby has fought for three wins in 27 appearances and 18 starts with a 6.67 ERA. Opponents are hitting .339 and .354 against them respectively. Chapdelaine leads the staff with a 3.54 ERA but has made just five starts and appeared in 15 games but has earned a 5-4 record on the year.

'Cuse Notes
- Corinne Ozanne earned her 100th career RBI last weekend with a double in game two of the series against Notre Dame. She has been on fire of late at the plate, recording a hit or more in 15 of her last 19 games and has either scored a run or knocked in a run in 13 of them as well.
- Julie Wambold enters the Virginia series just a run batted in away from 100 in her career. This season, she's done nothing but get on base, reaching in 35 of 41 games played. She's owns a .432 on-base percentage this season.
- Sammy Fernandez is locked in at the plate once again and is as good as any hitter in the game right now. In her last 16 at-bats she has recorded seven hits and has scored two runs while knocking in a pair as well. One of her seven hits was her first collegiate triple.
- Sydney O'Hara enjoyed one of the best games of her career last Friday against Notre Dame. After going one-for-two in game one she was locked in at the plate in game two, launching two home runs in three at-bats to drive in five runs and score two. She now has eight homers on the season and a team-leading 29 runs batted in. With her two-for-four day on Tuesday against Hofstra she has recorded two hits in four of her last six games and has nine hits in her last 17 at-bats.
- Rachel Burkhardt has been a key contributor to the offensive production the last seven games. She is 8-for-18 (.444) with eight runs batted in and two runs scored.
- Annie Toczynski launched her first career home run against Hofstra on Wednesday. Â Â Â
