No. 6 Boston University sweeps all four races
BOSTON – The No. 16 Syracuse University men's rowing team raced No. 6 Boston University and No. 18 Columbia for the Conlan Cup on Saturday morning on the Charles River. Boston University swept the competition, winning the Conlan Cup and Lusins Trophy for the third straight year.
Â
Syracuse finished in second place in the two of three races between Boston University and Columbia, the first and third varsity eight competitions. The Orange finished in third place in the second and fourth varsity eight.
Â
"All of our crews handled the conditions well," head coach Dave Reischman said. "Boston always is an interesting place to race. The water can get quite bumpy. Overall, it was a solid day of racing. All of the crews looked a little bit better than they did last week and that's the plan, week-by-week getting a little faster."
Â
In the first race of the day, the first varsity eight, Boston University defeated Syracuse and Columbia to retain the Conlan Cup and Lusins Trophy for the third straight year. Syracuse used a late charge to overtake Columbia and finish in second place. The Orange clocked in at 6:23.0, defeating Columbia by 0.6 seconds.
Â
"The varsity had one of its best races of the year, so far," commented Reischman. "I thought they made some good improvements over the past two weekends."
Â

Syracuse's second varsity eight boat finished in third place, recording a time of 6:23.0.
