The eight members of the Orange is the largest Syracuse contingent in over 30 years.
Day 1 Release | Day 2 Release
Four-more Syracuse student-athletes punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the third and final day of the NCAA East Preliminaries, marking eight members of the Orange who will be competing at the event in two weeks.
The eight student-athletes will be the largest Syracuse contingent at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in over 30 years.
Freddie Crittenden was the first member of the Orange to qualify, posting a time of 13.86 in the 110-meter hurdles, which was good for second in his heat and the accompanying automatic berth to Eugene, Oregon.
It's the second-straight year Crittenden qualified for nationals in the event.
Moments later, Donald Pollitt sprinted to a time of 13.72 seconds in the same event – the fourth-best time in the regional – winning his heat and joining Crittenden at the NCAA Championships.
The race was redemption for Pollitt, who missed a trip to Oregon last year by two-thousandths of a second.
Following Crittenden and Pollitt's qualifying races, Justyn Knight finished second in his heat of the 5000-meters and earned his berth to Oregon.
Knight's time of 13:53.48 was the second-best time at the regional.
Teammate Colin Bennie was right on Knight's heels, grabbing the eighth overall qualifying spot into the NCAA Championships, finishing with a time of 13:58.68.
Regine Hunter competed in the triple jump on Saturday, leaping to a distance of 12.12 meters, concluding her season with a 39th-place finish.
Saturday's qualifying group joins Martin Hehir, Max Straneva, Dan Lennon and Margo Malone who each qualified for the nationals on Thurday.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will get underway on Wednesday, June 10 at historic Heyward Field on Oregon's campus.
