SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team ranks No. 18 in the final Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Coaches Poll of the 2015 season, as announced on Wednesday morning. It marks the program's highest final ranking in the coaches' poll since the conclusion of the 2005 campaign.
Â
The Orange was ranked in the top 20 of the coaches' rankings in all but two poll releases during the 2015 season. Syracuse was ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation, following its successful regular-season finale against No. 1 Ohio State, No. 12 Michigan, and Michigan State.
Â
Syracuse has continued its rise under head coach Justin Moore. In his fifth season at the helm, the Orange finished in third place at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship for the second straight season, retained the Orange Challenge Cup for the third year in-a-row, and had the top collegiate four boat at the Head of the Charles.
Â
Junior Deirdre Fitzpatrick was named to the All-ACC First Team and CRCA All-Region 3 First Team. Senior Georgia Hamilton garnered CRCA All-Region 3 Second Team accolades, while classmate Chelsea Frawley was recognized on the All-ACC Second Team. Freshman Julia Vander Hoeven earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors, the first individual ACC award an Orange rower had won in program history.
Â
In addition, Kelsey Adams, Rose Aschebrock, Fitzpatrick, Frawley, Caroline Habjan, Hamilton, Amy Ludovici, Shannon McCann, Saydee McQuay, Olivia Mennillo, Ailish Tinney, and Kari Tomeny all were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. Aschebrock, Habjan, and Ludovici each earned scholar-athlete recognition for the third time in their collegiate careers, while Frawley and Hamilton received their second all-time honor. Syracuse led the ACC with 12 National Scholar-Athletes.
Â
The future remains bright for the Orange heading into the 2016 season, despite the departure of its senior class. In the varsity eight, Syracuse will return four of its nine crew members from the ACC Championship; Harriet Taylor, Kari Tomeny, Fitzpatrick, and Vander Hoeven.Â
