The red, white and blue added more Orange to its roster on Friday evening, when Craig Parnham, U.S. National team head coach, added senior goalkeeper Jess Jecko to the senior national team.
Jecko is one-of-six additions to the team following the U.S. Women's National Team trials in January, where she'll now join teammate Alyssa Manley on the USWNT roster.
Jecko was a 2015 All-ACC Second Team selection and played a pivotal role in the Orange's historic 2015 campaign. Jecko started all-22 games in net for the National Champions, allowing just 1.01 goals per game in a season where Syracuse never allowed more than two goals in a game and shut out seven opponents.
Perhaps the defining moment of her season came in the NCAA title game, when she stopped a North Carolina penalty stroke in the waning moments, to secure the team's first title in program history and first National Championship by any women's program in Syracuse athletics' history.
"When I received the news that I was invited to join the team I was ecstatic for the incredible opportunity I've been given," Jecko said. "To be able to represent the United States is a dream come true. It would not have been possible without my team, coaches, family and everyone else who helped me throughout my journey."
In addition to Jecko, Anna Dessoye (Maryland), Casey Di Nardo (North Carolina), Amanda Dinuzio (Penn State), Alyssa Parker (Maryland) and Taylor West (James Madison) were added to the roster following the January trials.
"Each of the players demonstrated some excellent qualities throughout the trial," Parnham said. "The trial is designed to identify the strengths across a range of attributes. The selected players were able to display their proficiency during the trial and now the opportunity to continue to grow and develop as part of the U.S. Women's National Team central program as it builds toward the 2017 Pan American Cup in Lancaster."
Manley, who is already training full-time with the national team as the U.S. prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, is the 2015 Honda Award Winner and was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. She previously competed with the U.S. team most recently at the Pan Am Games, scoring in the semifinal as the team went on to win gold and qualify for the Olympics.
Jecko and Manley aren't the only members of head coach Ange Bradley's squad competing for their respective country currently. Sophomore Laura Hurff is on the U.S. U21 squad, and senior Emma Russell and freshman Zoe Wilson just wrapped up a series with the Irish National Team in Spain this month.
