SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse volleyball redshirt sophomore Christina Oyawale takes pride in her leadership on and off the court, crediting her skills partially to the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
SAAC consists of student-athletes with a common goal of opening communication between the athletes and the Atlantic Coast Conference, as well as the NCAA. The group participates in campus and local events, while supporting fellow student-athletes in their academic and athletic careers.
Christina's many years of experience within Syracuse athletics and SAAC makes her one of the top dogs on and off the court.
This season, members of the Orange volleyball team have been forced to step up into leadership roles. Oyawale understands the importance of leadership mixed with a laidback demeanor during the team's transition, and has marked herself on the team as a fun-loving, encouraging role model.
Oyawale eliminates titles regarding age and experience, simplifying herself and others to just 'teammates' and 'sisters,' as they are all working as one towards a common goal of success.
A true embodiment of the SAAC mission statement, "Train to Win, Lead to Change," Oyawale places a broad leadership role at the top of her priorities.
