POTSDAM, N.Y. – Following yesterday's 2-2 tie with No. 4 Clarkson, Syracuse women's hockey suffered a 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights in Potsdam at Cheel Arena on Saturday, Dec. 10.
"I thought we battled hard after falling behind in the second period," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "We just didn't cash in on our chances."
Clarkson (15-3-4, 9-0-1 ECAC), the nation's second highest scoring offense, jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a goal in the first period and three goals in the second frame. Heather Schwarz scored her ninth goal of the season in the second period to put the Orange (5-8-5, 4-2-2 CHA) on the board, bringing the score to 4-1. She has now registered a point in three straight games. Dakota Derrer and Alysha Burriss had the assists on the score.
Goaltenders Abbey Miller and Maddi Welch split time in net during the contest. Miller finished with 17 saves and Welch had 16.
Syracuse killed off all six penalties in the contest. The Orange have not allowed a power play goal in three consecutive games.
Clarkson was the third ranked opponent Syracuse has played this season in a tough nonconference schedule. Of the Orange's five non-league opponents thus far in the season, three are currently ranked and the other two have made appearances in the rankings at some point this year.
The Orange will be back in action on Jan. 4 at No. 6 Boston College and will wrap up nonconference play at Cornell on Jan. 10. Syracuse will return home for a weekend series against College Hockey America foe Penn State on Jan. 13 and 14.
