FINDING THE FINAL FOUR
Syracuse is returning from its fourth consecutive appearance in the national semifinals. The Orange captured the ACC Championship title against North Carolina in the 2014-15 campaign and made it Championship Weekend where it lost to eventual national champion and top-ranked Maryland in the semifinal game, 10-8.
ORANGE RANK
Syracuse starts the 2016 season ranked No. 3 in both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Inside Lacrosse media polls. Defending national champion Maryland holds the No. 1 spot in both polls while 2015 runner-up North Carolina is No. 2. The Orange are in good company with three of the top five ranked teams competing in the ACC. Seven ACC teams in total earned spots in the top 20 squads in the poll.
TREANOR FOR TEWAARATON
Senior Kayla Treanor returns to the Carrier Dome for her fourth season with the Orange. The Niskayuna, N.Y. native was a finalist for the coveted Tewaaraton Award following her performances in her sophomore and junior seasons. In 2014-15, she ranked fifth nationally in scoring with 91 points. Treanor was also named Attacker of the Year by the IWLCA as well as Lacrosse Magazine and ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Following her overtime goal to give the Orange their first ACC Championship title, Treanor was named ACC Tournament MVP.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
The Orange faced off against the Greyhounds twice last season. Loyola took the last regular-season contest against the Orange, 9-8, at the SU Soccer Stadium. The pair met two weeks later in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in which Syracuse came away victorious, 10-7. The Greyhounds opened their season at Florida on Feb. 6 with a 15-6 loss. The contest featured a four-goal performance from sophomore Frankie Kamley and 12 saves from senior goalkeeper Molly Wolf.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats ended last season with a 6-11 record. Sunday marks the fourth all-time meeting between the Central New York opponents. The Orange are undefeated in the series, 4-0. Binghamton returns their leading scorer, junior Brianne Arthur, who tallied 25 goals last season.
UP NEXT…
The Orange host another double header at the Carrier Dome next Sunday, Feb. 21. The Orange welcomes Wagner and head coach Katie Rowan, Syracuse's all-time leading scorer, at noon before taking on Marist at 7:30 p.m.
