Clemson comes into Thursday's game with a 4-17 overall record and 0-8 mark in conference competition. In its last game, Clemson suffered a 59-56 against Pittsburgh on Jan. 31. Junior forward Paige Mosley and sophomore forward Nelly Perry each scored 16 points against the Panthers.
Preseason All-ACC Honoree
Following an All-ACC campaign in 2014-15, Peterson has continued to prove she is one of the elite guards in the nation this year. Peterson was named to the mid-season watch list for the 2016 Dawn Staley Award, which is presented annually to the country's top collegiate guard.
In the season opener at Rhode Island on Nov. 13, Peterson recorded a personal-best 10 steals, setting a Syracuse single-game record. The junior guard notched eight steals in the opening 20 minutes of play, which was one shy of previous school record. She also dished out eight assists on the night.
In the squad's 86-51 thrashing of No. 12/12 Duke, Peterson put on a spectacular show. The junior guard notched 17 points and a career-high 13 assists. Peterson was two assists shy of tying the program single-game record. Even more impressive, the Columbus, Ohio product only turned the ball over twice.
Last Time Out
A clutch offensive rebound and put-back from junior center Briana Day with 45 seconds remaining in regulation powered Syracuse to a 57-51 victory at No. 16/17 Miami on Feb. 1. It marked Syracuse's first win against a nationally-ranked opponent on the road since a 78-73 victory at No. 6/6 North Carolina on Jan. 30, 2014.
Following Day's bucket, the Orange knocked down six free throws to ice the contest against the Hurricanes. Junior guard Alexis Peterson was responsible for four free throws made in that stretch and 10 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Peterson finished with a team-high 16 points on the night.
Syracuse took an early lead in the BankUnited Center, thanks to a 14-0 run in the opening frame. The Orange held its lead until the 2:07 mark of the third quarter. From there it was a wild finish, as the score would tie up three times in the final quarter of competition.
In addition to her team-high 16 points, Peterson also swiped four steals on the night. Heading into the contest, the Columbus, Ohio native ranked fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 48th nationally in steals, averaging 2.55 steals per game.
