Five Named to ACC All-Academic Team
2/8/2016 2:29:00 PM | Field Hockey
Following a historic season on the field, five members of the Syracuse field hockey team continued to be honored off the field on Monday, when they were named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
Sophomore Laura Hurff (health and exercise science), senior Emma Russell (Economics), graduate student Alma Fenne (media and education), junior Serra Degnan (health and exercise science) and junior Emma Lamison (biophysical science) were named to the squad.
Syracuse's five honorees trail just Duke's eight for the most representatives from any program, with North Carolina and Wake Forest also tying the Orange with five apiece as well.
Russell has earned the award each of Syracuse's three seasons in the ACC, while it's Hurff's second time being honored.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The academic awards are the latest honor for the Orange, who earned the program's first National Championship in November. Syracuse became the first team since 1994 to sweep all-four ACC postseason awards, led by head coach Ange Bradley earning ACC Coach of the Year, Alyssa Manley earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Fenne winning ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Roos Weers taking ACC Rookie of the Year honors. Manley went on to win the Honda Award, which is the sports highest honor, while Bradley was named NFHCA Coach of the Year.
