
#42 Clemson Defeats #30 Syracuse, 4-3

CLEMSON, S.C.-Â Three players from the No. 30 Syracuse women's tennis team came away with singles wins against No. 42 Clemson on Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Orange were defeated by the Tigers 4-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Syracuse (8-4, 2-4 ACC) utilized victories from graduate student No. 45 Anna Shkudun and freshmen Gabriela Knutson and Dina Hegab, but Clemson (7-5, 5-2 ACC) prevailed in doubles while splitting singles play to come away with the win.Â
The Tigers took the doubles point with wins over No. 26 Knutson and junior Valeria Salazar and sophomore Nicole Mitchell and freshman Maria Tritou. Knutson and Salazar lost their second doubles match of the season on Sunday, falling to Ayan Broomfield and Fernanda Navarro by the final score of 6-3. Mitchell and Tritou were downed by the final score of 6-4, as Clemson moved into singles play up 1-0.
Shkudun improved to 8-5 on the season with a 7-6 (7-3, 6-0) win over No. 124 Navarro. Knutson and Hegab both improved to 9-3 on the season with their wins. Knutson lost the first set 6-1 to No. 17 Joana Eidukonyte before winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-2. Hegab took down Jenny Moinard in two straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
