After a season of success on the field, it was the off-field accomplishments that the Syracuse field hockey team was honored with on Monday, when the team was a recipient of the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award.
The 2015 NCAA Champions, the Orange were honored as one of the programs which posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
While performing well in the classroom this fall, the Syracuse field hockey team also reached historic levels of success on the field as well, by winning the program's first NCAA Championship. The Orange swept the four-major ACC postseason honors, becoming the first program to accomplish that feat since 1994. Head coach Ange Bradley went on to win the NFHCA National Coach of the Year as well.
This isn't the first academic award the Orange have earned this season either. Previously this off season, five members of the squad were named to the ACC All-Academic Team. Sophomore Laura Hurff (health and exercise science), senior Emma Russell (Economics), graduate student Alma Fenne (media and education), junior Serra Degnan (health and exercise science) and junior Emma Lamison (biophysical science) were named to the squad.
Only Duke had more representation on the ACC All-Academic squad with eight members. The NFHCA All-Academic Team will be released later this week.Â
