Tacarigua, Trinidad and Tobago – Rising junior Laura Hurff will look to continue the success of Syracuse midfielders winning gold medals at the Pan American Games with Team USA. Hurff will be part of the U.S. U-21 squad which travels to Trinidad and Tobago to begin play in the Junior Pan American Games on Thursday.
Hurff is following Alyssa Manley, who played in the Pan Am Games with the USWNT and took home a gold before returning to Syracuse for her senior season and leading the Orange to the program's first NCAA Championship before earning the Honda Award. Manley's classmate and fellow captain on last year's National Championship squad, Jess Jecko was also named to the USWNT this winter.
Hurff's U-21 team is in pool B, with Canada, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. She'll get action underway on Thursday at 4 p.m., against the host nation, before squaring off with Canada on Saturday and Mexico on Sunday. All-four Pool B teams will then square off against the top-four qualifiers from Pool A in the quarterfinals, which begins a single-elimination playoff on Tuesday, April 7, with the medal rounds coming Saturday, April 9.
A Newark, Delaware native, Hurff started all-22 games for the Orange this season, earning Second Team All-ACC accolades and NFHCA First Team All-America honors. She posted three goals and three assists this season.
