
Gbinije, Richardson Named To Coaches' All-ACC Teams

Graduate student Michael Gbinije, a guard, and freshmen forward Malachi Richardson earned Atlantic Coast Conference recognition in voting by the league's head coaches  it was announced on Sunday. Gbinije was named to the All-ACC Defensive Team and second-team All-ACC, while Richardson was selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
Gbinije and Richardson received the same All-ACC honors in balloting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Gbinije has started all 31 games and scored in double digits in each of them this season for Syracuse. He leads the club in scoring (17.6), assist (4.5), steal (2.0), 3-point (2.6) and minutes-played (37.8) averages. His 31-game streak of double-digit scoring ranks sixth on Syracuse's single-season list. The program record is owned by John Wallace, who had 38 in 1995-96. During the course of the current season, Gbinije became the 60th Syracuse player to accumulate 1,000 career points.
Richardson has also been with the first unit in all 31 games to date for the Orange. He's averaged 13.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 34.2 minutes per game. Richardson ranks third on the club in 3-point baskets (66).Â
