SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse softball team suffered its third straight loss in the weekend series finale against Boston College 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium.
Â
Boston College pitcher Jessica Dreswick was two outs away from registering a no-hitter on the day, until sophomore Maddi Doane stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and sent one to center field for the Orange's first and only base hit of the day. It was the first time this season an opponent has held the Orange to one hit.
Â
Dreswick tossed the full seven frames in the shutout, allowing only Doane to reach base for the Orange on the afternoon. In the bottom of the first, Dreswick walked Doane before a double play in the next at bat ended the inning for 'Cuse.
Â
Sophomore AnnaMarie Gatti threw the first 3.1 innings of the game, allowing five runs off of 10 hits while registering two Ks. Senior Jocelyn Cater entered the circle in the top of the fourth, finishing the game allowing only two more Boston College hits and one run while also striking out two batters.
Â
The Eagles got things started in the top of the second, tallying the first run of the game off of an RBI single to left center field. After a double and a fielder's choice play, a Syracuse fielding error drove in another run before an additional RBI base hit to the outfield made it 3-0.
Â
In the next inning, three doubles in five at bats sent two runners home to make it a 5-0 ballgame. Boston College topped it off in the fifth with an RBI single down the right field line that reeled in the runner at second after she walked and advanced on a wild pitch. The Orange held the Eagles hitless the rest of the way after the fifth inning.
Â
After Doane's base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles sealed the victory with 5-4-3 double play.

Syracuse wraps up regular season play at Binghamton this Tuesday, May 3, with a single-game matchup set for 5 p.m.
