VESTAL, N.Y. - A walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Binghamton to a 2-1 victory over Syracuse on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the loss, the Orange finish the regular season 27-25 and 9-14 in ACC play.
Â
Tied at one run apiece after sophomore Rachel Burkhardt blasted one out of the park in the top of the seventh, a lead-off single and a subsequent sacrifice bunt placed a Bearcat on second base with two outs. In the next at bat, Binghamton's leading hitter sophomore Jessica Rutherford drove one off of the left center field wall for the game-winning RBI.
Â
The Bearcats struck first in the bottom half of the opening frame, using two base hits and a sacrifice fly to left field to tally the first run of the game.
Â
Burkhardt's homer over the center field wall was her second of the season. Sophomore Maddi Doane and freshmen Hannah Dossett and Andrea Bombace contributed to the four Orange hits on the evening.
Â
Senior Jocelyn Cater and sophomore AnnaMarie Gatti shared mound duties on the night, with Cater tossing the first inning before Gatti stepped in in the bottom of the second. Cater re-entered the circle after a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Â
The duo tallied two strikeouts apiece while allowing one run each. Cater allowed three hits, while Gatti allowed five.
