Manley's defensive play leads to goal vs. Chile
Orange rising sophomore Jennifer Bleankey found the back of the net twice with the U.S. U-19 team in a three-game series with Germany over the weekend in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, while Alyssa Manley's defensive effort led to the first goal in the U.S. Senior National Team's 2-0 win over Chile over the weekend to continue Orange contributions at the international level.
Bleakney was the only scorer for the U.S. in each of the team's final-two contests with Germany. The Liverpool, N.Y. native tallied the goal in an eventual 7-1 loss to the Germans on Saturday, before scoring in a 4-1 loss on Sunday.
Bleakney played in 15 games with a pair of starts for the NCAA Champions this year.
Manley helped get her team on the board by cutting off a Chile pass that led to a counterattack, setting up Katie Bam to feed Loren Shealy in front for the first goal of the game for the U.S. squad.
The win was the first in a three-game set with Chile, which continues Tuesday in Lancaster, Pa.
