Lamison Scores Twice in 4-2 Win Over #11 Wake Forest

Emma Lamison tallied two early goals, while Jen Bleakney and Lies Lagerweij each tacked on one of their own in the first half to lead the No. 1 Syracuse field hockey team (7-0, 2-0 ACC) past No. 11 Wake Forest (4-3, 0-2 ACC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Orange got on the board quick, with the team maintaining possession after a pair of shots were sent toward the Demon Deacons cage. Lamison collected the ball in front and shot across Wake Forest net minder Cat O'Connor's body into the corner of the net for the score less than three minutes into play. Liz Sack was credited with the assist on the play after sending the ball from directly in front of the cage to the stick of Lamison

Wake Forest knotted things up shortly after though, when after Syracuse turned away a pair of corner attempts, the Demon Deacons were awarded a penalty stroke, which Nicola Pluta beat Regan Spencer on to even the match in the sixth minute.

Two goals in a 45 second span are what opened things up for 'Cuse. Lamison notched her second off a rebound. From outside the circle, Annalena Ulbrich sent a shot toward the cage which O'Connor deflected, but Lamison was there to clean up the loose ball and finish for the score.

Ulbrich again set up the next Syracuse goal in similar fashion. This time, she sent a ball toward the cage from close in, which Jen Bleakney grabbed and finished for the score to make it 3-1 with 23:37 elapsed in game play.

Just after the 30 minute mark, Lies Lagerweij opened up a three goal lead for SU. Lagerweij scored off a corner play with Elaine Carey and Njisje Venrooy getting the assists.

Syracuse went to the locker room with a 4-1 lead and while Pluta added another Wake Forest goal in the second half, that's all the Orange defense would allow.

Wake Forest was held to seven total shots and just four on net, Sunday. Syracuse rifled off 12 shots and put nine on cage. Spencer made a pair of saves and O'Connor turned away five SU attempts. Wake Forest did win the corner battle, drawing four corners to the Orange's three.

'Cuse returns to action on Friday, when the team travels to Chapel Hill, NC to face No. 3 North Carolina, before returning home Sunday to square off with Penn.
