
Orange Stay No. 1; Top-Five Showdown Awaits Friday

For the third consecutive week, the Syracuse field hockey team maintained the No. 1 spot in the NFHCA Coaches Poll, setting up the first top-five test of the season at No. 5 North Carolina on Friday.
The Orange obtained 25-of-44 first-place votes and received 834 points in the poll, to stay ahead of fellow unbeaten teams Duke (822 points, 12 first place votes), UConn (782 points, four first place votes) and Penn State (757 points, three first place votes), which occupy second through fourth in the rankings.
In addition to Syracuse, Duke and North Carolina, No. 7 Louisville, No. 9 Boston College, No. 14 Wake Forest and No. 16 Virginia represent the ACC in this week's poll, marking the 39th-straight poll where every team from the league has been ranked.
Syracuse has played ranked opponents in five of its first seven games, having beaten then No. 6 Maryland, No. 13 Liberty, No. 18 Boston College, No. 14 Stanford and No. 11 Wake Forest, and will continue to be tested with scheduled games upcoming vs. No. 2 Duke, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Louisville, No. 9 Boston University, and No. 16 Virginia.

The Orange have been ranked first in eight of the last-10 polls and has spent time at No. 1 in the 2016, 2015, 2012 and 2008 seasons. 'Cuse has also been represented in the top-10 of 20-straight polls and been ranked in 92 consecutive polls.
Syracuse's date with the Tar Heels will be shown live on GoHeelsTV at 6 p.m. on Friday, before the Orange return home to host Penn on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and ACC Network Extra. The game will also be 'Carnival Day' with events for people of all ages in the lots adjacent to J.S. Coyne Stadium. It'll also be an Orange Out, so make sure to don your Orange gear for the day.
