Records Fall in Win at Virginia Tech

No. 24 Syracuse defeated No. 19/21, 82-72
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 24 Syracuse women's basketball team knocked off No. 19/21 Virginia Tech, 82-72, on Sunday afternoon. It marked the Orange's fourth win against a nationally ranked opponent this year, setting a program regular-season record.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Syracuse (15-7) led Virginia Tech (16-5) by 16 points at the end of the first half. America's best backcourt, senior guard Alexis Peterson and redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes, combined for 33 of the team's total 49 points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Hokies would chip away at the Orange's advantage over the next two quarters, making it a six-point game with 2:46 remaining in regulation. Syracuse would respond with an 11-2 run to seal its third road victory.

"Our kids really competed, I have to give them a lot of credit. They took the challenge. Virginia Tech is a good team. They play well at home. We did a really good job of being solid and getting up and down the floor."
OF NOTE
Senior center Briana Day became the program's all-time leading rebounder on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Tech. Day has collected 1,005 boards in her collegiate career. In addition, she became the first player in Syracuse women's basketball to post 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Sykes took over sixth place on the Orange all-time scoring list with a 31-point effort, matching her career high, against the Hokies. Sykes has scored 1,630 points in her time on campus.
For the third time this year, three members of the Orange each scored at least 20 points. Sykes tallied 31 points, Peterson had 22 points, and Day notched 21 points.
