SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Tyus Battle had a game-high 20 points and freshman Oshae Brissett contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Syracuse by Southern New Hampshire, 84-54, in a Wednesday night exhibition game at the Carrier Dome.
Junior Frank Howard and freshman Howard Washington each tallied double-digit scoring on the night with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Freshman Bourama Sidibe and junior Paschal Chukwu each finished with six blocks. Sidibe added 10 points and eight rebounds.
How It Was Decided
Division II Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an early 13-8 first half lead, but the Orange responded with a 22-0 run.
Redshirt freshman Matthew Moyer connected on a jump shot and Battle scored the following seven points to put Syracuse ahead 17-13. Howard converted a layup followed by five Syracuse free throws, a Battle layup and back-to-back layups from Brissett to cap the Orange run.
Battle found Sidibe for an alley-oop later in the half to increase the Syracuse advantage to 35-17 and the Orange took a 41-21 lead into the intermission.
Sidibe and Chukwu combined for nine blocks in the first half and Syracuse held the Penman without a field goal for a time span of 11:41 in the period.
The Orange opened up the second half on a 26-5 run to build a 41-point lead.
Later on in the half, Washington hit back-to-back three pointers followed by a Battle jumper and a layup by Marek Dolezaj to give the Syracuse a 77-32 lead, it's largest lead of the game, with 7:15 remaining.
Of Note
Syracuse limited the Penman to 17-of-67 percent from the field (.254). Scoring at the rim for Southern New Hampshire was not easy, as the Orange finished with 15 blocks on the night.
