SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange (2-7-2, 1-0-1) hit the road for the first time this season as they travel just up the road to take on conference foe RIT (4-7-1, 1-3-0). Syracuse won four of the five meetings between the teams last season with the fifth game resulting in a 2-2 tie.
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Orange hosted Penn State for their first conference series of the season, taking three of the four points up for grabs (1-0-1) in the two-game set. Syracuse nabbed its first conference win in a 3-0 shutout against the Nittany Lions in game one.
Â
Senior captain Stephanie Grossi notched three points in the game (two goals, one assist), while Allie Munroe and Brooke Avery came up with a pair of goals for the Orange in game two. Senior goalie Abbey Miller posted 35 saves between the pipes for the Orange, allowing just two goals in the series.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and RIT have met a total of 22 times in Syracuse program history with the Orange holding the 13-7-2 series advantage. Thirteen of the meetings have resulted in either a tie or a one-goal game, while seven outings have gone into overtime.
Â
The last time the two teams met was in the CHA Tournament on March 3, with the ultimate outcome favoring the Orange. Syracuse posted a 4-0 shutout victory over the Tigers to advance to the CHA Finals.
Â
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers sit at 4-7-1 on the season and, like Syracuse, have one conference win under their belt. RIT is recently coming off a two-game series against No. 9 Robert Morris, facing defeat in both games. Sophomore Terra Lanteigne takes up residence in goal for the Tigers, accumulating four 40+ save outings, including a career-best 59 saves against Robert Morris.
Â
OPPONENT CONNECTIONS
Current RIT assistant coach Melissa Piacentini is no stranger to Orange hockey as she was a four-year member of the 'Cuse ice hockey team from 2012-16. She was named the CHA Player of the Year in 2016, finishing her collegiate career as the program's all-time leader in points (112) and goal (53). Eight current Syracuse players suited up alongside Piacentini during her time in an Orange uniform.
Â
UP NEXT
The Orange have a 12-day breather before playing three games in five days to kick-off the month of December. Syracuse hosts Lindenwood for a two-game set on Dec. 1 and 2 with puck drop at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Admission to all home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion is free.
