SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange hit the ice to take on reigning National Champion No. 3 Clarkson, Tuesday night in Syracuse's first midweek match-up of the season. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on Cuse.TV.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange continued conference play last weekend, hosting Lindenwood for a two-game set at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Syracuse split the series with the Lions, taking game one, 4-1, before falling 2-0 in game two.
Â
Four different Orange players notched a goal in game one, Brooke Avery, Kelli Rowswell, Sarah Stuehr and Victoria Klimek. Senior Abbey Miller started both contests between the pipes for 'Cuse, amassing 30 saves and allowing just two goals across the two games.
Â
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is the reigning National Champion after going undefeated in its final 16 games of the 2016-17 season and streaking all the way to the Frozen Four Finals. The Team topped Wisconsin, 3-0, in the Finals to take home the second National Championship in program history (2014).
Â
The Golden Knights have carrier their momentum from the previous year into the 2017-18 season, posting a 14-3-1 record thus far in the year. They are 2-0 against CHA teams, having swept Penn State in mid-October. Averaging 3.8 goals per game, Clarkson is outscoring opponents 69-22 on the season.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Orange and the Golden Knights have butted heads 14 times in Syracuse program history with Clarkson holding the 12-1-1 edge over the Orange. The only win for Syracuse came in 2010 when the Orange hung a 3-1 loss on the Golden Knights in Potsdam.
Â
Most recently, Syracuse played a home-and-home with Clarkson in December of last season, coming away with a 2-2 overtime tie in game one before dropping game two 4-1 on the road. In 10 of the 14 meetings between the teams, Clarkson has been ranked in the top 10 in the USCHO.com Poll.
Â
Senior Alysha Burriss has had the most success against the Golden Knights, tallying a goal and two assists when playing Clarkson.
Â
AVERY THE AMAZING
Redshirt junior Brooke Avery extended her scoring streak to four games when she notched a goal against Lindenwood in game one of the series. Avery amassed five goals in four games from Nov. 10 to Dec. 1, including a two-goal game against RIT on Nov. 18.
Â
The New Hampshire native is the first Orange player to post a goal in four consecutive games since fellow teammate Stephanie Grossi did so from Feb. 19 to March 5 in 2016.
Â
UP NEXT
The Orange hit the road for the first road series since Sept. 29/30 to take on Mercyhurst for a two-game set on Dec. 8 and 9. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
