SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior middle blocker Santita Ebangwese of the Syracuse women's volleyball team was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Region All-America Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Ebangwese is one of 14 members representing eight schools on the East Region Team. The Rochester, N.Y. native is the fifth AVCA Regional All-American selection in program history and the first since Silvi Uattara earned the honor in 2015.
Ebangwese led Syracuse with 331 kills, a .374 hitting percentage and 166 total blocks. She played a major role in the Orange blocking game, which out-blocked its opponent in 34 of 36 matches this season. Ebangwese is the only Syracuse member to start all 36 matches and play in every set.
In a victory over Dartmouth on Sep. 8, Ebangwese posted a program single-match record (minimum 20 attempts) with a .739 hitting percentage. She totaled a season-high 18 kills on 23 attacks with one error. In addition, Ebangwese tallied 10 blocks twice in matches against Bryant and at Duke.
Syracuse finished the 2017 slate with a 22-14 overall record and a 12-8 mark in ACC play. The Orange earned the ACC automatic bid into the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) and finished tied for fifth in the 32-team field.
