SYRACUSE, N.Y. --Â No. 5/6 Syracuse takes to the field for the first time in 2017 when it hosts No. 17/17 Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 11. The season-opening draw is set for noon in the Carrier Dome.

Tickets and parking are free for women's lacrosse games. Saturday's game is the first of a doubleheader with the Orange men's lacrosse team, which takes on Siena at 4 p.m. Fans that arrive after halftime of the women's game will be charged for a men's ticket.

19 YEARS AND COUNTING
The 2016 season will be the 20th for the Syracuse women's lacrosse program. The school announced its plan to add women's lacrosse during the 1994-95 school year. The Orange played their first game on March 14, 1998 against defending national champion Maryland. Syracuse has posted an all-time record of 256-101 (.717).

GAIT ERA TURNS 10
Head coach Gary Gait begins his 10th year at the helm of the Syracuse program. During his tenure, the Orange have posted a record of 150-48 and won three conference tournament titles. Syracuse has advanced to seven Final Fours since 2008, including five in a row, and made two appearances in the national championship game.

ORANGE IN SEASON OPENERS
Syracuse opens the season at home for the third consecutive year. Overall, the Orange are 13-5 in season openers, including a 9-0 mark under the direction of head coach Gary Gait.

ORANGE PICKED SECOND IN ACC PRESEASON POLL
Syracuse was picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches. The Orange earned 52 points in the preseason poll. Defending national champion North Carolina was picked to win the league, garnering 63 points. Notre Dame was picked third (50 pts.), followed by Duke (37 pts.). Boston College and Virginia tied for the fifth spot with 29 points each. Louisville was seventh in the poll (20 pts.), while Virginia Tech was eighth (8 pts.).

ORANGE WELCOME TALENTED NEWCOMERS
Inside Lacrosse magazine ranked Syracuse's freshman class No. 2 in the nation. In addition, the Orange have five players ranked among the top 50 freshmen in the nation. Goalkeeper Asa Goldstock (Niskayuna, N.Y.) is the No. 3-ranked recruit in the nation, while Emily Hawryshuk (Victor, N.Y.) is ranked No. 8. Lila Nazarian (Baltimore, Md.) is No. 20 in this year's freshman class, Kerry Defliese (Garden City, N.Y.) is No. 33 and Vanessa Costantino (West Islip, N.Y.) is ranked No. 40. In addition, Morgan Widner (Coppell, Texas) was named to the Watch List.

UP NEXT…
Syracuse will play a pair of games next weekend in the Carrier Dome. The Orange take on Canisius at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, before facing Binghamton at 7 p.m. that evening.
