Orange records 18th straight win in the Dome
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 20/19 Syracuse women's basketball team won its 18th straight home game with a 95-64 win against North Carolina on Sunday afternoon inside the Carrier Dome.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
In the first half, the Orange (18-8) did not allow more than three consecutive points from North Carolina (13-12), outscoring the Tar Heels, 43-26, in the half. At the 4:06 mark of the first period, the score was 11-10. Syracuse then went on a 20-4 run to take a 31-14 lead.
North Carolina was able to get the lead down to 12 points at the beginning of the second half behind an 11-1 run, but the Orange ultimately outscored the Tar Heels, 33-23, in the period.
Q'S TAKE
"It was a very good game by our team. I thought we came out and played well. We did the things that we do, played fast, got the ball up and down the floor, and got into the paint, into our kill zone. We didn't shoot the ball well from the perimeter today, in fact it was pretty bad. Alexis was great and Brittney was phenomenal. Anytime we can get our big three scoring and affecting the game like that we are going to have a good game."
OF NOTE
Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes had a career night in the Carrier Dome. The Newark, N.J. native had a career-high 34 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. It was the third highest point total from a Syracuse women's basketball player in the Loud House. Sykes also eclipsed the 1,700-career points mark during the game, ending the contest with 1,718.
It was the fifth straight game that Sykes, senior center Briana Day, and senior guard Alexis Peterson each have had at least 10 points. Peterson has had 10 or more points in 46 consecutive games. Peterson finished with 27 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Day had 19 points and a season-high 16 rebounds.
