Hey 'Cuse fans! Syracuse volleyball will be releasing a weekly offseason blog with one entry from each student-athlete. This week marks the fifth installment of our 'Offseason Updater' with an exceprt from freshman Dana Valelly!
Name: Dana Valelly
Postition: Setter
Year: Freshman
Major: Enrolled in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management with an intent to study Real Estate
Hometown: Dallas, Texas
Dana: The offseason so far has been going great, and it is awesome to see the improvements our team is making in such a short amount of time. With such a busy in-season schedule, it is hard to focus on the little details involved with technique and form. However, the spring has given us the time and flexibility to work on individual improvement and improve those skills that might have been overlooked during season. We are also making strides in the weight room and have been increasing our strength, speed, and mental toughness.
With more time in my schedule, I have also been able to spend more time on my academics. Since I am in the business school here, I have become more involved in the programs it offers and been able to attend more events like speakers, job fairs, and meetings with different business firms. I centered my course schedule with more rigorous, demanding classes due to the extra free time I have now. I really enjoy the courses I'm taking currently, and have learned a lot more about the business world.
Aside from school and volleyball, I have also been enjoying my first winter here in 'Cuse! Being from Texas, I am not used to seeing the amount of snow we get here… It has definitely been an adjustment, but I actually think the snow is beautiful and very fun to play in! However, I have been told this winter has been very mild in comparison to others, so I guess I got lucky for my first winter here.
