Hey 'Cuse fans! Syracuse volleyball will be releasing a weekly offseason blog with one entry from each student-athlete. This week marks the third installment of our 'Offseason Updater' with an excerpt from assistant coach Erin Little.
Name: Erin Little
Postition: Assistant Coach
Alma Mater: Syracuse, 2012
Hometown: Glenville, N.Y.
Coach Little: Happy Spring Season! Well we are now in the third training week and I think the team has already started to make improvements all around. I can see that the players have been coming in to practices and workouts focused to get better as individuals and pushing each other as a team. We have focused a lot on footwork training, specific strength and conditioning, as well as individual technique training. Today will be the first time that we will do a little bit of scrimmaging to implement the skill work we have been doing into practice!
Off the floor we have started a lifestyle challenge with the team that has been fun to get involved in. This week our challenge was to eat a healthy balanced breakfast. Personally breakfast is one of my favorite meals, and I love to get creative with it so this is an easier one for me. This week included a kale chia strawberry banana smoothie on Monday before morning practice, and eggs on avocado toast today, yum! I am also a coffee lover so a cup is also a part of my breakfast daily. I have personally been trying to cut down to one cup a day though, so I treat myself in the morning and then naturally drink more water throughout the rest of the day.
The spring semester as coaches we are also able to spend more time on recruiting and working with the players individually. As a coach this is one of my favorite parts of the job. I enjoy getting to know the players, finding out about them and their goals. Seeing how as a coach you can give them the tools and knowledge to become better as individuals, while also building a championship team. I've found that training in general has a lot to teach us about ourselves; how we overcome setbacks, how we rise to challenges, and how we will go after our goals. I believe that the players have learned a lot about themselves this fall, and will continue to grow throughout this spring to become a great team come August!
