Syracuse Blanks Navy in Florida

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Syracuse women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep of Navy on Tuesday evening in Lakeland, Florida.
The Orange (4-7, 1-3 ACC) began the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez teamed up for the seventh time this season and secured a 6-4 victory in the top spot to improve to 5-2 together this season. Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab grabbed a 6-5 win at the second spot. Maria Tritou and Nicole Mitchell lost a tight, 7-5 match at the third seed.
Shkudun defended the top singles spot for the fifth time this season and came away with an impressive three set victory. After falling, 6-0, in the first set, Shkudun bounced back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Ramirez extended her winning streak to eight with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. The freshman is now 9-1 in her first collegiate season. Knutson picked up a quick 6-0, 6-1 win at the third seed for her fifth win of the year.
Maria Tritou earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fourth spot to clinch the win for Syracuse. Libi Mesh claimed a three-set victory after dropping the first set. Hegab also took three sets to earn her win at the No. 6.
Syracuse will be back in action on Friday when they host Clemson for an Atlantic Coast Conference match at Drumlins Country Club at 2 p.m.
