Orange tally four runs in seventh frame
Georgia Tech used a walk-off RBI single to the left side to seal the home league victory.
Sydney O'Hara led the way for the Orange in tonight's setback, as the senior notched her sixth home run in the last week. O'Hara was 2-for-2 from home plate with an RBI homer while earning four walks on the game.
After 4.2 innings of play, O'Hara (4-2) checked in for starting pitcher AnnaMarie Gatti. O'Hara tallied eight strikeouts on the night in 21 batters faced, while Gatti had seven strikeouts over a total of 28 batters.
Hannah Dossett was 3-for-4 from the plate with a run and an RBI, while sophomore Alicia Hansen was 3-for-6 with a run.
The Yellow Jackets used a five-run second inning to establish a hefty lead over the Orange.
With single up the middle, junior Sammy Fernandez started the action for Syracuse in the top of the third frame. Hansen followed it with a single to the shortstop and used her speed to get on base, while O'Hara was walked to follow to load the bases.
Sophomore Bryce Holmgren was walked with bases loaded to give 'Cuse its first run of the night, while junior Faith Cain was walked right after to push another runner through home plate for the second Orange run of the night.
O'Hara's home run in the top of the fifth inning closed the gap to two runs, 5-3, but the Orange were unable to continue to add runs to the score as Georgia Tech added a pair in the bottom of the fifth to lead, 7-3.
In the final chance to tie the game up, the Orange tallied four runs in the top of the seventh frame to force extra innings.
O'Hara was walked to first to begin the comeback for 'Cuse, before a double from Holmgren put two runners in scoring position. An RBI groundout from Cain brought O'Hara in for the first run.
Facing two outs on the board, junior Rachel Burkhardt was hit by a pitch and walked to first base. Dossett approached home plate and hit an RBI single to bring Holmgren home for the second run of the frame.
Senior Alyssa Dewes account for the final two RBI of the inning as she reached first base off of a fielder's choice before advancing to second off the throw.
The pair battled through 2.5 scoreless extra innings, before the Yellow Jackets tallied a two-out walk-off RBI single to seal the game, 8-7.
