Syracuse Edged by #6 Georgia Tech

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team fell short of an upset against No. 6 Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club. The Orange suffered a 4-3 loss to the Yellow Jackets.
From the start, the match was close. In doubles, Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab earned a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot while Georgia Tech picked up a win at the No. 3. The doubles point was to be determined by the result at the top spot. Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez battled to take the match into a tiebreaker, but were beaten 7-4 in extra points.
Georgia Tech recorded a second point with a win at the No. 5 spot in singles, but Ramirez and Knutson tied it up with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Ramirez topped No. 46 Rasheeda McAdoo to extend her winning streak to 10 matches. Knutson defeated No. 113 Paige Hourigan at No. 3. The Yellow Jackets clinched the win with victories at the No. 4 and 2.
Dina Hegab won her fourth straight match with a three-set win at No. 6 that included a comeback in the third set.
The Orange will be back in action on Friday, March 31 when they host Louisville at Drumlins. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
