Hey 'Cuse fans! Syracuse volleyball will be releasing a weekly offseason blog with one entry from each student-athlete. This week marks the 12th installment of our 'Offseason Updater' with an excerpt from freshman Aliah Bowllan.
Name: Aliah Bowllan
Postition: Defensive Specialist
Year: Freshman
Major: Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics
Hometown: Pittsford, N.Y.
Aliah: My first spring semester here has been incredibly busy for me. Although volleyball is not necessarily as rigorous as it is in season, it is still just as demanding. Academically, this semester has been tough but we are almost at the finish line!
As a team, we have had the great opportunity to travel to local tournaments and play different schools from New York. This has been a rewarding experience because we are finally able to execute what we have been working on in practice. Playing in these tournaments also allows us as a team to see what we need to work on to improve as much as we can so we can be prepared for our upcoming season.
Academically, this spring semester has been challenging but has taught me a great amount about my major. Currently, I am taking a selling class that has been able to open my eyes to what I plan to do with my major. I have learned that the business route is one-hundred percent for me, and I look forward to combining both business and my passion for sports.
Although this first spring semester has been challenging with balancing both school and athletics, I can truly feel myself growing as a person. In all areas of my life I am more focused and driven to be successful, but most importantly I have learned that even with our crazy schedules it is important to find time for yourself. I am excited to finish this spring semester on a high note and get ready for season! Go Cuse!
