Hokies Defeat Orange, 4-3

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Syracuse women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Virginia Tech on Thursday afternoon. The Orange will be back in action on Saturday when they host No. 14 Duke for Senior Day.
Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez began doubles play with a 6-1 victory against the No. 52-ranked duo Caroline Dexhelet and Francesca Fusinato. Syracuse lost at the No. 3, so the point came down to the second spot. In a back-and-forth match, the Hokies claimed a 7-6 win with a 7-3 tiebreaking score.
No. 94 Miranda Ramirez improved to 14-3 on the season with a 6-3, 6-3 win against No. 96 Francesca Fusinato at No. 1. Dina Hegab earned a straight set win at No. 5 for her ninth win of the season. Libi Mesh also won in straight sets for her eighth singles win of the season.
Syracuse (7-11, 4-7 ACC) will host No. 14 Duke (15-3, 9-0 ACC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Drumlins Country Club for the final home match of the season. Saturday will be Senior Day for seniors Valeria Salazar and Olivia Messineo.
