'Cuse Comes Up Short on Senior Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team was defeated by No. 14 Duke on Saturday afternoon, 5-2.
The match started on the right note as the Orange (7-12, 4-8 ACC) claimed the doubles point. Duke (17-3, 11-0 ACC) won at No. 3, but Miranda Ramirez and Gabriela Knutson defeated No. 36 Kaitlyn McCarthy and Meible Chi and Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab earned a 6-3 win at No. 2. Knutson and Ramirez are now 9-5 together and have a 2-1 record against ranked opponents.
Duke was able to clinch the match with five singles wins. Ramirez was the only Orange player with a singles win. The freshman earned a three-set comeback win against No. 73 Samantha Harris. She now improves to 15-3 on the season.
Maria Tritou battled in her singles match, but fell in three sets. Anna Shkudun nearly forced a third set by coming back to tie the second set, 5-5. No. 50 Chalena School rallied to win the next two to claim the win and clinch the match for the Blue Devils.
The Orange will conclude the regular season with two away matches next week. They will travel to No. 26 Wake Forest on Friday and then to No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday.
