Orange complete five-win road resume

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Junior Faith Cain's perfect performance in today's series finale pushed Syracuse (24-15, 6-9 ACC) to a 7-3 victory over Pittsburgh (21-19, 4-14 ACC) for a three-game league sweep of the Panthers at Vartabedian Field. The Orange are winners of five-straight road matchups after today's win.

Cain was 4-of-4 on the day with two doubles, two singles and three RBI to lead the Orange offense in the victory. Freshman Alexa Romero (10-6) earned the win with six strikeouts to total 21 over the three-game series.

Junior Sammy Fernandez was 3-of-5 with a run and an RBI, while the pair of junior Rachel Burkhardt and senior Alyssa Dewes were both 2-of-4. Sophomore Alicia Hansen was 2-of-5 with two runs and an RBI on the day.

Cain began her hot day from home plate by slamming a two-out RBI double to center field to bring Fernandez home from first base, putting 'Cuse on the board.

The junior came back in the third inning with her second two-out RBI of the day. She knocked a bouncing single to left field to bring Hansen home from second and give the Orange a 2-0 advantage.

Redshirt junior Olivia Martinez tallied her first yard-ball of the season, as she hit a solo home run past the left field wall in the fourth inning to increase the lead, 3-0.

The Panthers tacked on a 2 RBI homer over the back center wall in an attempt to catch the Orange, but a stand-up RBI double from Cain in the sixth inning pushed 'Cuse ahead, 5-2. The hit marked the third two-out conversion for Cain in today's game.

A second Pitt home run to center field brought the Panthers within two, 5-3, but a pair of two-out RBI singles from Fernandez and Hansen ended the game in Syracuse's favor, 7-3.

The Orange return home for a Tuesday non-conference doubleheader with Niagara at Skytop Softball Stadium before heading to Siena on Wednesday for a second non-ACC twinbill matchup. 'Cuse will continue league play at home next weekend, as the Orange welcome North Carolina for a three-game series.
