Hey 'Cuse fans! Syracuse volleyball will be releasing a weekly offseason blog with one entry from each student-athlete. This week marks the final installment of our 'Offseason Updater' with an excerpt from sophomore Mariia Levanova.
Name: Mariia Levanova
Postition: Outside Hitter
Year: Sophomore
Major: Enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics
Hometown: St. Petersburg, Russia
Mariia: This spring semester was the first off season section for me. Because of my injury, I almost did not practice during my freshman year, but now I'm full of energy and motivated to make up for everything that I missed last year.
In the beginning of the spring I got medically cleared to participate in practices and started to work on my physical condition and volleyball skills. That was tough after more than one year to start from elementary things and build every single element. But my team, coaches and medical staff helped me in my recovery and gave me strength to keep working as hard as I could. I appreciate everything that they have done for me and I'm happy to have an opportunity to be a part of the Orange family! After this semester I feel more self-confident and can't wait to get back on the court next season. My team worked hard as a group and as individuals too. Having gone through difficult times together we have built a solid foundation that will help us to become stronger and show better results than last season!
In my academic field for this spring, I had goals to declare my major and raise my GPA. More free time this semester gave me that ability to achieve both of them. I was able to schedule my classes in the best way for myself and distribute equally all the work I needed to get done.
Overall, I am looking forward for next 2.5 years here at Syracuse University and excited to have more unforgettable experiences with this team!
