Knight and Thevenin Qualify for NCAAs
5/28/2017 2:24:00 AM | Track and Field
Tia Thevenin's personal-best time of 13.27 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and Justyn Knight's easy win in his heat of the 5000-meters made them the fourth and fifth members of the Orange to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, joining Colin Bennie, Paige Stoner and Aidan Tooker.
Thevenin was the first competitor for the Orange on Saturday and she followed up her PR from Friday with a new career-best mark in the 100-meter hurdles to advance on time to Eugene, Oregon for the first time in her career. The NCAA Championship is June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon.
Knight then easily won his heat in 14:13.64 to advance to his third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championship.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Freddie Crittenden III clipped a hurdle as one of the nation's top seeds and came up lame, unable to finish the race and subsequently ending his collegiate career on Saturday. He closes the Syracuse chapter having competed in three NCAA Outdoor Championship meets and two indoor championship meets, where he twice finished as the runner-up.
Madeleine Davison was the fourth member of the Orange in action on Saturday. She finished in 17:06.91 of the 5k, which was good for 31st overall.
