Syracuse center back Roos Weers, who has led the Orange to seven-straight shutouts to start the season and scored a pair of goals on Sunday, has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Weers led 'Cuse to a 6-0 shutout win over No. 8 Boston College in the team's ACC opener on Friday, allowing just three shots on net. She followed the performance up with both goals in a 2-0 win over No. 21 Albany on Sunday. In that game, she held the Great Danes offense without a shot on net, the fourth time in seven games this season the Orange defense went a full 70 minutes without allowing a shot on goal.
Weers and the Orange will next take on Wake Forest on Saturday at 11 a.m. in J.S. Coyne Stadium, in what will be the second game of the ACC slate.
