POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team (9-16-2, 8-5-1) fell short, 4-1, to reigning National Champion No. 2 Clarkson (24-3-1, 14-2), Tuesday night at Cheel Arena. The Orange defense tallied 19 blocked shots in the contest but Syracuse could not generate enough opportunities in the offensive end of the ice.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Golden Knights jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the first period but the Orange would not be deterred, outshooting Clarkson 19-16 through the first two frames.
Grossi cut the lead in half, sniping a shot from the point past Clarkson's goalie Shea Tiley. Michaela Boyle responded with her second goal of the night just over a minute later to make it 3-1, Golden Knights heading into the final period.
Rhyen McGill extended the Clarkson lead to three goals with a score at just over five minutes to go in the game, securing the win for the Golden Knights.
OF NOTE
With her second-period goal, Grossi is now tied with Melissa Piacentini ('16) for the Syracuse all-time record for career points (112). The senior has accumulated 44 goals and 68 assists in her four-year career with the Orange, ranking first in career assists and second in career goals.
Senior netminder Abbey Miller tallied 30 saves between the pipes for the Orange, marking the ninth time this season that she has eclipsed the 30-saves mark.

The Orange have a weekend off before hitting the road to take on in-state rival Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on Feb. 6.
