
Volleyball Hosts North Carolina, NC State

The Syracuse volleyball team concludes its four-match home stand as it hosts North Carolina and NC State this weekend. The Orange (10-6, 6-2 ACC) open up the weekend Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. against North Carolina before a 1 p.m. matchup Sunday, Oct. 21 against NC State.
Both matches will be broadcast on ACCN Extra. Admission and parking are free of charge.

THE MATCHUPS
North Carolina (5-12, 1-7 ACC) enters the weekend looking to snap its five-game losing streak and improve its 1-4 road record this season. The Tar Heels were swept last weekend by Virginia and No. 6 Pittsburgh as their sole conference victory remains a 3-1 win over NC State.

The Tar Heels have found offensive production this season in a pair of freshmen, Destiny Cox and Ava Bell. Cox leads the team with 3.35 kills per set, while Bell has a team-best .336 hitting percentage against conference foes. Bell has also contributed 1.17 blocks per set in ACC matches.

NC State (9-9, 3-5 ACC) went 1-1 last weekend after defeating Virginia and taking a 3-1 loss to No. 6 Pittsburgh. The Wolfpack rank second in the ACC with 15.32 digs per set while holding opponents to a .186 hitting percentage.

In the Oranges' 3-2 loss against Florida State, Polina Shemanova became the first Syracuse player since 2006 to record 30 kills in a match. Her 30 kills are the most by a freshman in program history. She added 25 kills and 20 digs in a 3-1 defeat over Miami on the way to earning her second ACC Freshman of the Week honor this season. Â

Santita Ebangwese contributed with a .462 hitting percentage between the two matches. She recorded 15 and 16 kills, respectively, and added seven blocks against Miami.Â
