
Field Hockey Defeated by Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Syracuse University's 14th-ranked field hockey team fell, 5-2, against No. 12 Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Syracuse (8-7, 1-5 ACC) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute with a goal by Kira Wimbert, her second of the season. Saint Joseph evened the score in the 20th minute before taking the 2-1 lead a minute later. Roos Weers tied the game, 2-2, with a penalty stroke in the 28th minute.
The Orange were unable to connect for a goal in the second period as Saint Joseph's recorded three, including two from Tonya Botherway. Saint Joseph held a 5-3 corner advantage while outshooting the Orange 16-7.
Goalkeeper Borg van der Velde recorded seven saves in goal while Weers led Syracuse with four shots, two of which were on goal.
Syracuse opens play as the No. 7 seed at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Thursday, Nov. 1. The Orange are set to face No. 2 seed Duke at 1:30 p.m. on RSN and ACC Network Extra. Duke won the regular season meeting, 1-0, on Sept. 14 in Syracuse.
