
Career Highs from Oyawale, Saada lead the Orange Past Boston College

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A pair of career-high kill performances from Ella Saada and Christina Oyawale helped lead the Syracuse University volleyball team past Boston College, 3-1, Wednesday evening. Syracuse took the mid-week victory by set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 25-13.
Saada paired her match-high 20 kills with 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Oyawale finished the night with a team-best .476 hitting percentage on a 12-of-21 performance.
How It Happened
Boston College (13-12, 3-10 ACC) matched Syracuse (14-7, 10-3 ACC) point-for-point, tying the opening set nine times. The Orange took a 20-18 lead with three-straight kills from Saada and Oyawale. Boston College tied it up late, 24-24, before Saada's kill and a service ace from Aliah Bowllan sealed the first set victory for 'Cuse.
Following a 25-21 second set victory, Syracuse took a slight 4-3 advantage to open the third set. The Eagles answered on a 7-1 run to go up 9-5. Three kills from Saada closed the gap, 13-12. A crucial block from Yuliia Yastrub backed up by kills from Amber Witherspoon and Kendra Lukacs gave Syracuse its first lead of the set, 18-17. Boston College continued to find an answer for the Syracuse attack, keeping the match tied at 22. Back-to-back Syracuse attack errors allowed the Eagles' McKenna Goss to clinch the third set victory for Boston College with a kill.
Syracuse never trailed in the fourth set, opening with a 4-0 run. The Orange had a .464 hitting percentage while holding Boston College to a .061 clip. Saada was responsible for six of the Orange's 16 kills.
OF NOTE
Syracuse recorded 10 of its 15 blocks in the second and third set. Witherspoon and Santita Ebangwese had a match-high seven blocks each, followed by Yastrub's six. Kendra Lukacs stepped up for the Orange in the third and fourth set with a season-high eight kills
